GOOLWA CRICKET CLUB
Respecting the Past, Building the Future
WELCOME
The Goolwa Cricket Club would like to welcome players (new and old), parents and care givers to the Club for the upcoming season. You will find our Club to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive Club that has an active off field social atmosphere and an on field passion to above all enjoy playing cricket. As a GOLD level Good Sports Club we have effective policies & action plans in place to create a safe & family-friendly club.

We strive to keep our Subs affordable. Our Junior players pay NO fees to the Club and only have to pay the National Registration fee to Cricket Australia currently at $16.

Senior fees at this stage are $155 which includes the National Registration fee and GSCA fees.
Our Teams & Programs
The Goolwa Cricket Club has a range of grades and teams to suit all levels of ability.
At the top end our A Grade team is in one of its most successful eras and has only missed the finals twice in the last 11 years. However, we are still chasing an elusive premiership. Since 2023-24 we have a state-of-the-art practice facility, a new clubroom, electronic scoreboard, and perhaps the best oval in the Association. It is a great time to join our Club and play in our top side.
Our second grade team were runner ups in the C1 grade in 2023-24 and premiers in 2021-22. They have gone up to the B Grade in 2024-25. They play in a mixture of 1 and 2 day games. They are a mixture of young and experienced cricketers who hope to keep striving to get into the A Grade.
Our C2 team includes some of the veterans of our Club, many of whom are past premiership players and who definitely play for the love of the game. They are looking for some younger players to join their team to do some of the more physical parts of the game from fast bowling to running quick singles, to fielding in the outfield and chasing down the big hits!!
They bring a lot of experience to the game and no matter what the final score they enjoy the game and the after match review back in the clubrooms where they discuss how lucky or unlucky their day went.
The Club is keen to get an Under 14s team together this year to build our future for the Club. Practices will start for all Juniors on Wednesday 18th of September from 4.00.
Under 12s will also practice on those Wednesdays.
Woolworths blasters will start in term 4 on Thursdays beginning October 24th from 4.45- 6.00 for 5-6 weeks.
Our Under 12's Junior teams plays on Friday nights from 4.30 to approx 7.30 and is a modified rules match with each pair of batters facing 4 overs so that everyone gets a bat and bowl. It is a great fun night with the players gaining valuable cricket skills as well as learning how to enjoy a team environment with their local friends. The parents also have a great time watching and encouraging their children and seeing them gain confidence and those other life skills that come from playing any sport.
Ages range from 9 - 12 and many teams have a mixture of boys and girls playing. At the change of innings the home clubs put on a BBQ and for parents it's a good social end to the week.
Our coach Luke Giddings is a graduate of our first Under 12s team from the 1980s and is fantastic with the kids and at the end of every match goes through the highlights of what the team did well and awards a person of the match.
Goolwa Cricket Club - About Us
The Goolwa Cricket Club (the Magpies) plays in the Great Southern Cricket Association a relatively strong country Association just south (within an hour’s travel approx. 80 km) from the state capital Adelaide. It is a hard wicket competition with 3 teams in the Association having a turf pitch. The Association is made up of 12 -14 teams from the surrounding areas. The first recorded cricket match in Goolwa was in 1859 and we have been a foundation Club since then in the original Encounter Bay Cricket Association and then the Great Southern Cricket Association established in 1921-22.
Our Club is in one of its more successful eras. We have played in 9 of the last 10 years’ finals series finishing runner up in the A Grade competition 4 times. We won the T20 Association competition in 2015-16, whilst the B2 team won the premiership in that year and our C2 team won a premiership in 2020-21. We are an accredited GOLD level Good Sports Club and have a dedicated administration that runs the Club professionally. You will find our Club to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive Club that has an active off field social atmosphere and an on field passion to above all enjoy playing cricket.
